  1. Irix 6.2 Applications, May 1996
  2. -------------------------------
  3. This CD contains products which supplement, or in some cases replace,
  4. products on the two IRIX 6.2 CD's. In particular, this CD contains
  5. versions of three products which replace those found on the IRIX 6.2
  6. CD's: Netscape Navigator 2.01S, License Tools 2.1.1, and What's New
  7. 6.2, May 1996. This CD also contains Impressario 2.0 (7 related
  8. products) and several patches for IRIX 6.2
  9.  
  10. Note: Packaged with your software is a separate sheet that contains the
  11. Software License Agreement. This software is provided to you solely
  12. under the terms and conditions of the Software License Agreement.
  13. Please take a few moments to review the Agreement.

  15. Installation information
  16. ------------------------ 
  17. You should install IRIX 6.2 before installing any of products on this
  18. CD. If you purchased an Indy machine after May 1996, it is likely that
  19. much of this software has been pre-installed on your system (Other
  20. Silicon Graphics systems such as Indigo2, POWER Indigo2 and Indigo2
  21. IMPACT do not have the software pre-installed. For a full list of the
  22. software on your system, use the versions command.)

  24. We suggest that you finish reviewing this README before making your
  25. selections in inst.  If you should ever need to refer back to this
  26. README, simply re-insert the CD and double-click on the CD icon, or
  27. view the file /CDROM/dist/inst.README.

  29. You may choose to read the release notes for products before installing
  30. them. Netscape Navigator, License Tools, Impressario (Base) and the
  31. patches all have release notes available. To view the release notes for 
  32. products, open a winterm and type
  33.    cd /CDROM <Enter>  
  34.    ./CDgrelnotes <Enter>       (or ./CDrelnotes for a non-graphical display)

  36. Notes about the products
  37. ------------------------

  39. 1.  The version of License Tools 2.1.1 on this CD is newer than the version
  40. on the IRIX 6.2 first CD. A bug in the old 2.1 version can cause users
  41. to lose NetLS nodelocked licenses from the file /var/netls/nodelock.
  42. This scenario is especially common for users who have received licenses
  43. within the past year, even if the user did not use License Manager to
  44. install the new license. Silicon Graphics strongly recommends that all
  45. customers upgrade to License Tools 2.1.1 from this CD to avoid this
  46. problem.

  48. 2.  The version of Netscape Navigator 2.01S on this CD is newer than
  49. the version on the IRIX 6.2 second CD. The 2.01S version contains
  50. important bug fixes including changes related to Java scripts, gopher
  51. URLs, and security bug fixes. List of Products on this CD

  64. 11. Patch 1038, SoftWindows2. Bug fix that allows SoftWindows to launch 
  65.     when pre-installed on hard drives (hostname change) 
  66. 12. Patch 1239, SoftWindows2. Security fix for SoftWindows. 
  67. 13. Patch 1208, IRIX 6.2. Highly recommended bug fix for XFS that avoids 
  68.     a filesystem corruption problem.  
  69. 14. Patch 1258, IRIX 6.2. Recommended for Cosmo Create users. Fixes bug 
  70.     in fam (file alteration monitor). 
  71. 15. Patch 1266, IRIX 6.2. Fixes a problem where very long RLD environment
  72.     variables can cause rld to overwrite other variables and produce 
  73.     incorrect error messages. Recommended for all system types. 
  74. 16. Patch 1270, IRIX 6.2. Fixes bug with requickstart damaging C++ libraries. 
  75. 17. Patch 1281, IRIX 6.2. Fixes security problem with some environment 
  76.     variables in the rmail mail delivery program. Recommended for all 
  77.     system types. 
  78. 18. Patch 1295, IRIX 6.2. Recomended for machines with IO4proms 
  79.     (Challenge, Onyx, Power Challenge, Power Challenge R10000); fixes bug 
  80.     programming flash proms on IO4s during software upgrades. 
  81. 19. Patch 1301, IRIX 6.2. Required for Infinite reality customers on 6.2.
  82.     Multiple bug fixes, including problems with black power-on screen.

  85. Note: If you purchased an Indy or Challenge S machine after May 1996,
  86. some of these patches are pre-installed.
